INTRODUCTION:
PCI Compliance in simple terms relates to a new set of standards for Credit/Debit Card Security… Equipment that accepts PIN Entry for Debit Cards is a key focus of these new standards. There are also new standards for the Storage and Security of Card Data on Network Connected Point of Sale Terminals. In most cases this is going to require upgrading at least some of your existing hardware and/or software so that you will be able to continue processing Credit & Debit Card transactions without possible fines or denial of service. Adams Tank & Lift can assist you in deciding how to handle this transition so you can provide seamless service to your customers by keeping you informed of what steps need to be taken to remain compliant and when these requirements will be put into affect. We can also help to keep your costs for these critical upgrades to a minimum by making you aware of different incentives and/or discount programs you may be able to take advantage of.
CAN I UPGRADE MY EXISTING EQUIPMENT?
Most POS Systems will require a Software Upgrade to remain PCI compliant… However, only some of this software is currently available. You may want to contact your local representative (if applicable) and inquire about how PCI compliance is going to be handled, perhaps they have a program in place or some incentives to help offset the cost of the needed upgrades. If the software is available and not part of a company wide compliance program we can provide you with more information regarding the upgrade of your POS System.
PIN Entry Devices (PINPADS) on the other hand can be upgraded at any time but like POS Systems the actual ‘Triple DES’ Key is not currently available for all applications, meaning a fee to install the required key would likely apply in cases when the device was ordered and installed before the TDES Key was ready.
Most Dresser Wayne Dispensers can be upgraded with iX™ Pay Secure Payment technology, this PCI 2.0 Approved Equipment covers all bases for compliance at the dispenser and can have the required ‘Triple DES’ key preloaded (if available) or loaded by a certified technician in the field when released for use. Pricing for the iX™ Pay Secure Payment Retrofit Kits varies depending on the hardware that needs to be added and/or replaced, but in all cases the end result is a dispenser that is fully compliant with current requirements and can be upgraded to meet potential future requirements. Remember, Visa has mandated these security changes be complete by July of 2010, if not in place at that time you will be out of compliance and unable to process PIN Entry Transactions.
I am working to assemble more timely and application/platform specific information, I will update this post as I am able to do so.
